Organized by topic, similar to the categories Bernard uses on his Educational Uses of Digital Storytelling site — despite some overlap where a story might fit under more than one category, stories that genuinely span two topics appear under both.
Educational Materials
Beyond the digital stories themselves, some UH students also created supplemental educational materials to go with theirs — discussion questions, research prompts, and other resources a teacher could use alongside the story itself. Bernard explains the idea in this narrated presentation.
The practice dates to 2011, when Bernard began requiring it in his graduate digital storytelling course — shifting the final assignment from a single, polished digital story to what he began calling a "digital story project": the story paired with supplemental materials students found or created themselves, so the finished piece could serve as more than something a viewer sees just once.
